Grading.

​Classroom tasks will be recorded as complete / incomplete either automatically, or at the end of the school day. Please contact me if you will be or have been absent. Homework tasks turned in late will be marked as 0 pts , since students have 2-5 nights to complete them. No late final projects will be accepted.

Part I:  Tasks

All assignments completed during the first 2 weeks of class are included in this portion of the grade.

Point Breakdown:
  • ​Completed EdPuzzle: 5 pts
  • Completed "Still I Rise" Reflection: 5 pts
  • Completed Vocabulary Mind Maps: 10 pts
  • Vocabulary Quiz: 15 pts possible (3 pts per question)
  • Completed "The Problem with Diversity in Literature" Pre & Post Questionnaires: 20 pts (10 pts each)
  • Completed Biographical Reading Assignment: 20 pts
  • Completed Reading Checkpoint Form: 25 pts
TOTAL: 100 pts

Part II: Project

All assignments completed in weeks 3 & 4 of your project will be included in this portion of the grade.

Point Breakdown:
  • Completed Thesis: 5 pts​
  • Completed Decision Form: 5 pts
  • Completed Outline: 5 pts
  • Completed First Draft: 10 pts
  • Final Project or Paper: 75 pts possible (see rubrics)
TOTAL: 100 pts

Final Project Instructions & Rubrics

PRESENTATION: 
​Prompt: Do your author's experiences as a minority in America influence his/her work? How?
Students who choose to present to the class will:

  • Use Google Slides to create their presentation.
  • Have a clearly stated thesis.
  • Follow a traditional presentation format, with a title slide, an introduction slide, body slides, and a conclusion/works cited slide.
  • Use quotes and evidence from readings to support the thesis well.
  • Use clear and concise bullet points; and utilize themes, fonts, and images in a clean and engaging way.
  • Show a rich understanding of the author’s life and work, as well as how those pertain to diversity in literature.
  • Present their thoughts to the class in a well-rehearsed and engaging manner.

PAPER:
​Prompt: Do your author's experiences as a minority in America influence his/her work? How?
​Students who choose to write a paper will turn in a paper that:


  • Is 2-3 pages in length.
  • Has a clearly stated thesis.
  • Follows traditional essay format, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
  • Uses quotes and evidence from readings to support the thesis well.
  • Has proper in-text citations and a works cited page following the MLA format.
  • Has size 12 font in Times New Roman.
  • Shows a rich understanding of the author’s life and work, as well as how those pertain to diversity in literature.
